Visitors Welcome! Observers may always attend Field Trials, Hunt Tests and all other AKC Competition Events. When attending Field Trials, keep in mind that most of them are run on horseback. You may walk along with the gallery to watch the dogs work, but it's 30-45 minutes of horse-paced walking. Hunt tests are run on foot (only the judges ride horses) so are a little easier to see. Still, bring binoculars for best viewing of the dogs at a distance. Blaze orange is required for anyone walking in areas where firearms are being carried. Wear boots and all-weather gear. Children must be closely supervised. Most events start at about 8am and run until late afternoon, so arrive at any time during the day to watch and learn. Introduce yourself to anyone who doesn't seem busy and they'll be happy to explain what's going on. It's best not to bring your own dog so he doesn't cause a distraction to the dogs in competition. All dogs that are on AKC event grounds must be on leash except when competing. Some events have chuck wagons, but others do not have food on the grounds, so pack a lunch and bring a chair, sit back and enjoy watching good dogs work! |
